A Lucky Place To Be...
Most of us here in Flagler County feel lucky to be living here because of the surroundings, beautiful homes and way of life. We all know there is good fortune here. But...it appears we are in a region that is lucky in another way.... LOTTO!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Flagler County residents may want to head toward the Palm Harbor Shopping Center to buy their next lottery ticket. On Wednesday afternoon, Palm Coast retiree Linda Karam claimed the last of 10 tickets worth $1 million in the Holiday Millionaire Raffle that ran from Nov. 20 through the end of the month.
Karam, 61, drove up to Tallahassee to get her lump sum check, lottery media relations specialist Shelisha Durden said. Winners receive $750,000 because federal withholding taxes charge 25 percent, Durden said.
Volusia and Flagler residents had a good showing in the statewide raffle. Two weeks ago, Dean and Caroline Jensen of DeLand and Norman L. Adams of Flagler Beach claimed $1 million tickets as well. It was the first time the lottery has offered the game where players pay $20 for a ticket that spits out a number sequence, Durden said. Lottery officials are now planning a summer millionaire raffle.
Karam's win marks the second winning ticket this year sold in Palm Coast. In June, builder Kenneth Wittmer claimed a $10 million jackpot ticket he had bought from the Kangaroo Express gas station off Palm Coast Parkway. (as reported in the Daytona News Journal)
Congrats to the lucky winners! Isn't life just grand?!
